Public opportunity to shape the future of Irvine Bay on March 14
Stewart McIntosh

Local people get their big chance to help shape the future of Irvine Bay when Irvine Bay Regeneration Company holds its Annual Public Meeting on March 24th.

The organisation charged with breathing new life into the five towns of Ardrossan, Saltcoats, Stevenston, Kilwinning and Irvine received welcome news recently, when – despite difficult economic conditions – the Scottish Government and Scottish Enterprise joined with North Ayrshire Council in maintaining existing levels of support for the company’s work, ending a period of uncertainty.

Now the company is hoping for a big turn-out for its new-look Annual Public Meeting.

Irvine Bay Regeneration Company has seen up to 300 people attend previous annual meetings, all held during the day in hotels in Irvine.

This year’s event promises to be something different, being staged at St Matthews Academy, Jack’s Road, Saltcoats, on Thursday, March 24th at 7pm.

This will be the first time the event has been held in the evening, and the first time it has been held outside Irvine.

Local people and businesses will get an opportunity to hear and see first-hand the work that has taken place during the year, and plans for the year ahead.

Chief Executive Patrick Wiggins said: “We welcomed the commitment of our funding partners, despite the financial pressures they are under. It is an endorsement of the programme of work we are engaged in. In terms of the annual meeting, we felt that a change of time and place would help to encourage some new people along to hear of our work.

“The change of venue allows us to increase the capacity, using the extra space to provide more informative displays on some of our major work for people to view and ask questions.

“Holding it in Saltcoats and in the evening will also allow some people who may have found it difficult to attend during the working day to come along.”
