Kirkcaldy centre hits a six

THE 215,000 sq ft Mercat Shopping Centre in Kirkcaldy has secured six new retailers in a flurry of letting activity.

These include a new 15,000 sq ft superstore has been let to JJB Sports on a 15-year lease at £115,000 a year and is scheduled to open later in the summer.

Subway has secured its first Scottish mall café outlet in the centre's main atrium, taking a a 10-year lease at £41,150, and juice bar operator Zumo has taken a mall unit on a ten-year lease at £15,000.

Poundland has opened a 4,000 sq ft store on a 15-year lease at £115,000, and completing the sextet are Carphone Warehouse and 3 Store who have also opened new units in the Centre, paying £40,300 and £59,750 respectively.

Cushman & Wakefield and Atisreal represented the landlord. John Menzies, partner at C&W stated: “These lettings introduce a number of new retail attractors to the town and are good news for the centre and its shoppers.

" We are speaking to a number of other interested retailers who are attracted by the Mercat's key strengths - its high footfall and strong anchor tenants that include Marks & Spencer, Bhs and TK Maxx.”

Meanwhile in Alloa, Knight Frank has let 51 Shillinghill, Alloa, to Caversham Finance which trades as Bright House, on behalf of AGE. This letting takes the retail block to full occupancy, with the existing occupiers being Farmfoods, New Look and Ethel Austin.

The 3,995 sq ft property has been let in shell condition at an annual rental of £49,000 on a new 10-year lease, subject to a tenant break option between years five and six.
